The night market: where things stand
For years the Duong Dong night market was the classic evening stop on Phu Quoc: seafood, souvenirs and a pedestrian area in the evening, on Bach Dang Street in the town center. That picture is now out of date. Do not plan on a large, unchanged market along the whole riverfront.
The short version: the market is still being talked about as part of the town's night economy, but reports about what is open in October 2026 do not agree. Treat everything below as a guide to what to check, and ask your hotel the same day before you go.

What changed, step by step
The sequence from press reports in 2026. These are news reports, not statements from the local government.
31 December 2025
The operator contract for the Bach Dang market ended. According to a January 2026 report, the commune let traders keep selling through Tet. That is not the same as a full shutdown on the day.
Until 28 February 2026
A temporary extension covered the period after Tet.
April 2026
A report on a meeting with traders on 1 April 2026 described a request to hand over the space and a search for new sites. The commune also said it wants to keep the night market as part of its night economy. An intention is not a confirmed new address.
October 2026
Two reports from mid-October point in different directions. See the table below.

What the October 2026 reports say
Two sources, both published on 14 October 2026, describe different situations. Neither is a statement from the local government.
| Source | Location described | Hours described | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Travel guide, 14 Oct 2026 | 54 Nguyen Trai, a smaller remaining market | About 17:00โ23:30 | Bach Dang riverside section described as closed |
| Resort travel guide, 14 Oct 2026 | Bach Dang Street | About 17:00โ22:00 or 23:45 | Future described as unclear |
| Older tourism board texts, undated | Bach Dang Street, pedestrian area; one text calls it the Dinh Cau Night Market | About 17:00โ24:00 | Out of date, one text mentions a promotion that ended in 2022 |
So the situation is not clear. Do not treat the older tourism texts as proof that the market is open today. Do not treat the 54 Nguyen Trai report as a confirmed new home either. No confirmed final location, stall count or fixed hours have been announced.
How to find out before you go
The easiest check is local. Ask your hotel or host that day whether the market is running and where. Then use a map app in the late afternoon to look at the area around Bach Dang Street and Nguyen Trai Street. Go after 17:00, since that is the start time in all the 2026 reports.
- Ask for the address you are going to, and show it to your driver.
- Plan to arrive early in the evening. Smaller markets can wind down sooner than the larger one did.
- Agree or ask the price before you order at a stall. Street prices are not fixed, and there is no published entrance fee, parking rate or toilet fee to quote.
- Have a backup plan for dinner, such as a restaurant near the waterfront.
The old market area was best known for seafood and souvenirs. Whether the same kinds of stalls are there now depends on the day.

Alternatives for an evening out
If the market is small or closed, these keep your evening on track.

VUI-Fest Bazaar in Sunset Town
A separate market with food, drinks and souvenirs, open daily from 16:00 to 24:00 according to the operator (October 2026).

Long Beach at sunset
The national tourism organization describes Long Beach as a sunset spot with cafes and bars.

More things to do
Boat trips, parks and beaches for the rest of the day.
The VUI-Fest Bazaar has not been declared a replacement for the Duong Dong market. It is a different market in a different part of the island, with its own hours. The hours listed there do not apply to Duong Dong. The Sunset Town area also has the Kiss of the Sea show and the cable car, covered in our Sunset Town guide.
Getting to Duong Dong
Duong Dong is on the west coast and is the main town. From Phu Quoc airport, the airport operator estimates a ride-hailing trip to Duong Dong at 20 to 25 minutes and roughly VND 150,000 to 220,000 per ride (undated estimate, varies with demand and vehicle). These are not fixed fares.
If you stay near Long Beach or elsewhere on the island, a short ride is usually easier than driving yourself and looking for parking, since no parking rate is published. Our where to stay guide compares the areas, including Duong Dong and Long Beach.
Mainland Vietnam has its own night markets too. Hoi An has a night market guide on its sister site, which is useful if your trip continues there.

Phu Quoc night market: frequently asked questions
Is the Phu Quoc night market still open?
It is unclear. The contract for the Bach Dang market ended on 31 December 2025, traders were given a temporary extension to 28 February 2026, and reports from October 2026 disagree. Ask your hotel on the day.
Where is the night market now?
One October 2026 report describes a smaller market at 54 Nguyen Trai. Another still describes Bach Dang Street and calls the future unclear. No confirmed new location has been announced.
What time does it open?
The 2026 reports give about 17:00 as the start, and closing times between about 22:00 and 24:00. These are approximate, so go early in the evening.
Is there an entrance fee?
No entrance fee, parking rate or toilet fee is published for the market. Street stall prices vary, so ask before you order.
Is the VUI-Fest Bazaar the new night market?
No. It is a separate market in Sunset Town in the south, open daily from 16:00 to 24:00 according to the operator. It has not been declared a replacement for the Duong Dong market.
Where else can I eat in the evening?
Long Beach has cafes and bars on the west coast, and Sunset Town has the bazaar. Both are covered on our beaches and Sunset Town pages.
