Phu Quoc in a nutshell

Phu Quoc is an island off the southwest coast of Vietnam. The national tourism organization highlights its beaches, fishing villages, pepper plantations and fish sauce production. Visitors add a cable car to Hon Thom, the Sunset Town waterfront, boat trips to the An Thoi islands and two large parks, VinWonders and the Vinpearl Safari.

This guide is independent. It is not run by a tourism authority, Sun World, VinWonders or any tour operator. It collects 2026 prices, opening times and entry rules, and it says plainly where sources disagree.

What changed in 2026

Where older guides are out of date.

The night market is in flux

The contract for the Bach Dang market in Duong Dong ended on 31 December 2025. October 2026 reports describe a smaller market at 54 Nguyen Trai and, elsewhere, activity on Bach Dang. Do not plan a whole evening around the old riverfront market.

Park prices differ by source

Operator pages list VinWonders at VND 1,050,000 for adults and the Safari from VND 950,000. A January 2026 notice and older articles show lower figures. Check the price on the day.

Life jackets before departure

After a boat accident in July 2026, the transport authority of An Giang province requires passengers to wear life jackets before the boat leaves. Choose operators who enforce it.

Ferries and a new show season

On 14 August 2026 ferries between Rach Gia or Ha Tien and Phu Quoc were suspended for a time because of wind and waves. Symphony of the Sea, season 3, is announced for 10 November 2026 at Sunset Town.

Entry rules and getting here

According to the foreign ministry's exemption list (published June 2025), foreigners flying to Phu Quoc may stay up to 30 days without a visa. That includes a stay in the transit area of another international Vietnamese border crossing before the onward trip to the island. It does not cover an open-ended mainland holiday. German citizens can also stay 45 days visa-free across Vietnam since 15 March 2025, with a passport valid for at least six months. An e-visa is available for up to 90 days, listed at USD 25 for a single and USD 50 for multiple entries. Rules depend on your passport and route, so check before you travel.

Phu Quoc International Airport (VVPQ) has been run by Sun Airport since 1 January 2026. The airport lists ride-hailing to Duong Dong at about 20 to 25 minutes and an estimated VND 150,000 to 220,000, and to An Thoi at 25 to 30 minutes and VND 200,000 to 250,000. VinBus lines 17, 19 and 20 serve the airport, Grand World and Bai Vong port, but fares and free-ride terms differ between sources, so check before you board.

Weather and where to stay

Two decisions that shape the trip.

Rain is the main variable. The Japan Meteorological Agency shows 20.6 mm in February against 542.3 mm in September, but these are monthly totals and not forecasts.

Beyond the island

You can combine Phu Quoc with other places in Vietnam. Nha Trang on the central coast offers beaches, island trips and its own VinWonders. Hoi An is known for its old town. Can Tho is the base for the Mekong Delta, and ferries to Phu Quoc leave from Rach Gia and Ha Tien on the mainland.

Phu Quoc: frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Phu Quoc?

Foreigners arriving on Phu Quoc may stay up to 30 days without a visa, according to the foreign ministry's list. German citizens can stay 45 days visa-free across Vietnam. An e-visa lasts up to 90 days. Check the rules for your passport before you travel.

Is Phu Quoc a UNESCO World Heritage site?

No. UNESCO lists Kien Giang as a biosphere reserve under its Man and the Biosphere programme, which is not the same as World Heritage status.
